VOLVO OCEAN RACE 2011-2012

Lisbon will host in June 2012 the end of the transatlantic stage of the Volvo Ocean Race 2011-2012 - a race that is considered the official Sailing Race Around the World. The elite of the sport goes through the Portuguese capital, in an event jointly organized by João Lagos Sports and the City of Lisbon.

Lisbon and Portugal are to be congratulated! It was a complex application process - «and completely driven behind the scenes of the gods for over a year until the announcement of victory, as is our prerogative», says João Lagos - which was attended by 34 cities in Europe, but the Portuguese capital due to its maritime history, extraordinary conditions for the practice of sailing and track record in organizing major events, was chosen to host the important 'Stopover' that will bring the fleet of the Volvo Ocean Race from the United States of America to the 'Old Continent'.

After Expo '98, the Tennis Masters Cup Lisboa 2000, Euro 2004 and the Lisbon-Dakar and other events, the transatlantic stage of the Volvo Ocean Race will once again put the name of Portugal in the first world level: «It is very important to have Lisbon as a city in our stopovers. It has excellent conditions for the practice of sailing and racing 'inport' is certainly spectacular. Race Village - Exhibition and Teams Area

Exhibition Area
All Sponsors will have the opportunity, through tents, stands and hospitality areas, to contact with the public and guests. It will be in this area that visitors will find animations like concerts, shows, games, quizzes, parallel competitions - not forgetting all the food options.

Teams Area
The land basis for the teams in the competition. In it are included docking areas, dry areas for repairs, local support boats, and other needs. All these areas are points of public interest and contact with the event, with an expected visit to massive audiences.
